Out and About in Glenshiel
Ratagan is an excellent central location for a visit to the Western Highlands, within easy reach of the Five Sisters of Kintail, the Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye beyond. Additionally the village is a superb base for walking, horse riding, fishing, climbing, and many other outdoor pursuits.

With eagles and buzzards flying overhead, and porpoises, otters and seals regularly visiting Loch Duich, Ratagan in Glenshiel provides an idyllic setting for the perfect Scottish Highlands break. If you would like to see more examples of the scenery, have a look through our picture gallery.

Excursions include Eilean Donan Castle and other historic monuments, Lochalsh Woodland Gardens, Attadale Gardens and other tropical gardens and landscapes, see the secrets of the sea in the Seaprobe Atlantis from Kyle of Lochalsh, or stay above water and enjoy one of Calum's Seal Trips.

Apart from Ratagan, there are also some extremely picturesque villages within easy driving distance, including Dornie, Plockton, Kyle of Lochalsh, Kyleakin and Balmacara.

Local Producers in the surrounding area includes a number of distilleries all of which are worthy of a visit, the Achmore Dairy offers a wide range of locally made dairy products all of which come highly recommended, the Kyle Art Market, Skye Jewellery and Loch Duich Plants.

Physical Activities It almost goes without saying that there is an excellent range of physical activities in the Ratagan area. Glenshiel has 17 munros to offer any walkers, including the Five Sisters of Kintail, and the Falls of Glomach are easily accessible. Guided tours are available locally. Enjoy all the fun of a power boat ride, whilst taking in the spectacular scenery and wildlife with a Sea fari from Skye, hire a bike for the day, enjoy a pony trek at Avernish or visit the Isle of Skye Falconry.

If you want to travel slightly further, why not take a trip to the Rhue Studio near Ullapool to see the superb artwork of James Hawkins? Whether you just want to appreciate excellent art, or you are looking for the ultimate in gifts to take home, a visit to the gallery displaying his landscape works is a must. A day trip will allow you to take in the outstanding views across the Applecross penisular on your way back.
